After taking this class I realized that I was not aware of women in sport. I never really paid attention to the way that women were treated. After reading several readings from our class, I became more aware of the inequality between men and women. The reading “ Just Do…What? Sport, Bodies and Gender” was very interesting to me. I never looked at their commercials from a different perspective. Therefore, I decided to look more into other Nike commercials for women. I went on to Youtube and found some really interesting videos. The one that really caught my attention was about women who are aware of all the stereotypes and biases that they have to face. They say phrases like “You never been to our games”, “You don’t know the rules”, “You think were a joke” which are aimed towards men. They know that people do not take women into consideration or even bother to see them play and that’s why this commercial stood out to me because it relates to what our class is about. This commercial shows women playing, getting hurt and fighting for victory. They do the same things that men do and yet women sports are not taken seriously.
